It came to light on Monday that the Child Protection and Welfare Bureau in Lahore, Pakistan, had rescued a 12-year-old domestic worker named Gulnaz from a house nearby the Walton area where she was said to have been severely abused.

Lahore: A young domestic worker, believed to be around 12 years old, was rescued late Sunday night by the Child Protection & Welfare Bureau (CPWB) after a distress call reported severe abuse. She was brought before the Bureau’s Special Magistrate on Monday and immediately shifted to Mayo Hospital for urgent medical treatment.

Doctors say the girl is in critical condition, bearing clear signs of repeated torture. Bruises and wounds were found on her head, arms, legs, and several other parts of her body.

So far, no formal case has been registered against the couple accused of the abuse — both of whom are doctors employed at government hospitals. CPWB officials shared that an FIR will be officially lodged once the medical report is completed.

CPWB Chairperson Sarah Ahmad confirmed that her team acted without delay after receiving a complaint on the helpline. She strongly condemned the incident, calling it a horrific violation of child rights.

“There will be zero leniency for anyone involved in child abuse,” Ahmad stressed, reaffirming the Punjab government’s strict stance on such crimes.

Officials have struggled to obtain basic information from the child due to her physical and emotional trauma. Initial findings suggest she might be from Dera Ghazi Khan, but her identity and family details are still being verified.

Sources within CPWB say her condition remains unstable as she continues to fight for her life in the hospital.

The Bureau is now working to locate her family and ensure she receives justice and long-term protection.
